If you haven't guessed it already the film is.......
The Motorcycle Diaries!
Before my good friend departed to Columbia for good she had recommended a film to me. I considered her recommendation and tucked it away in my mind for a future day. A few months later on a quiet Sunday evening I remembered the film and got my hands on this amazing piece of film!
At first I was unaware of the subject matter. All I knew was it involved traveling. After reading up on the film I came to find out what the film was based on. The film focuses on a man who later in life would become an iconic symbol, and one of the most notable people of the 20th century.
That man was Enersto "CHE" Guevara. When people hear this name certain feelings arise. Some with love, others with hatred, and some just think it's a cool shirt. Either way the man behind this name was quite the character. I am not here to discuss politics nor anything relating to who this man later became. What is of interest on my behalf is a story of a young man who dreamed, who was trying to find his place in the world, and who like many travelers had a thirst for adventure.
The film picks up where Enersto and his friend Alberto are about to embark on a life changing journey. Without going full movie critic or IMDB I will say this film has left a lasting impression on me.
I relate to this film on many levels. Levels of self awareness, global citizenry, helping others, appreciation of life, and certainly not last dreaming.
The life I try to lead now is one of purpose. Purpose for myself, and purpose for others. This path has shown me thus far everything that is right with the world.
As I continue down it, I cannot help but to savor everything it may put in front of me for good or worse.
Because of this film I have made some future travel plans. I to will in some manner partake in my own Motorcycle Diaries. I will for the first time travel to the continent of South America in 2013.
This time next year I would have fulfilled a nine year promise to myself. A promise I set out on as an 18yr old kid, and I am fulfilling as 27yr old man, that promise to graduate from a University.
I have chosen to commemorate this event with a gift in the form of a new experience. I will begin this experience in the country of Uruguay, then traveling down into Argentina, and lastly going to Columbia. I will choose a travel method I have not yet partaken in, backpacking.
I strongly believe in the good of people, and in the adventure of the journey, surely both will be experienced while on this trip. I will hopefully be joined by two lovely travelers(friends) on this adventure. We have even concocted plans to rent a motorcycle with two side carts (we're travel geeks, but cool ones!). Each one of us has a thirst for adventure so it should keeps things interesting.
I leave this post with some music from the film that has inspired me. I cannot wait for this trip to become reality, and to share the experience here on the site in a year’s time.
Until then there are adventures to be had, and experiences to live!

PS: I will also let you guys in on some exclusive stuff!! As the IHeartTravel store is currently being upgraded, I will share a future shirt inspired solely by this film & the adventure formed because of it. It will be in the shop when it relaunches sometime this summer.
It's a re-imagining of the Che shirt you have probably seen time & time again. This shirt does not focus on the icon, but on the young man who shaped that icon...Enjoy !
