This connected world however can become a bit much sometimes. Sometimes you get so caught up in it you forget to enjoy the moments. Lets be honest have you ever been out with friends and you look around and everyone is full zombie mode on their phones....Shits annoying!!!
You get caught up in sharing your thoughts on facebook, your opinions on twitter or your photos on instagram etc. For that reason I enjoy a little break from time to time especially when I travel.
Personally I favor travel done abroad. Of the many reasons is my ability to disconnect. See when I go abroad of course I could get a world phone, of course I could unlock my phone and buy a local sim card, or just bring my laptop. However I choose to go without.
I choose to enjoy the experience and what it will bring. I don't want to get so caught up in sharing the moment until it's appropriate. Last year when in London I very sparingly utilized the internet solely to communicate with those who would help me navigate the city.
On my recent trip to Guatemala the connected world was also but a memory. I really wanted my daughter and I to revel in the beauty of the country, and so we did. We enjoyed time with family, took in scenery by camioneta, and traveled for travel sake.
I'm not here saying that travel should be solely done without technology. I am however saying that sometimes it's better to just turn it off, relax, chill, enjoy where you are. Wherever you find yourself enjoy that place and what it can bring.
Instead of looking up for places to go, ask someone who's a local. Instead of trying to capture a memorable moment, just go with the flow, the moment you seek will present itself eventually if you go find it.
Disconnecting to some might seem more like a detriment than a release. However if you have not tried it I encourage you to do so. What you will find from the disconnected world might expose you to something you may have never experienced!
Do you disconnect when you travel?
