Happy People : )

You know from the documentaries I view, to the travels I've been on. I have come across genuine happy people. The type of people that enrich your soul, brighten your mood, and always leave an impact!
On my adventures through this life so far I have come across people that have genuinely made me appreciate life.

These people are HAPPY, and I mean not only with a smile on their face, I mean genuinely happy inside & out.

Some of these people  live in conditions that are not ideal to some. Compared to the life standards of most Industrial nations, these people are at the lowest of low on the economic ladder.

However they seem to be the richest of people in my eyes. They're genuine, they are not ashamed of who they are, they don't pretend to be who they are not.

No they don't have material wealth, but what they do have is a spirit to live, and make the most of the situation they find themselves in.

I never fully understood as a first generation child growing up in the United States. How can people that have barely running water, houses on the verge of collapsing, living situations that seem detrimental to your health.

How and why are these people so happy?

Constant images from media outlets always seem to portray what one must be or have to be happy. A big house, a new car , designer clothes etc. I believe the media has it ass backwards on happiness ( as well as many other things).

Being a lover of travel when I like to reflect on happiness I think of images like these
These people may not have the fancy things life, but they have the best things in life. They have happiness, genuine character, appreciation of the small things, and a will to work hard for a better tomorrow.

Nowadays I don't care for the fancy things in life, I want the happy things!

Be happy, life is to short to do otherwise  : )

I leave it in the words of the great John Lennon:

Wholeheartedly agreed. Very good and inspirational article. Western world kinda conditions us to get caught up with small and insignificant things. I choose to not worry about things, have perspective and be happy.

If those kids can be happy with what they have, what excuse do I have not to smile?

Jarkko big thanks for checking out the blog!

I fully agree with your comment, and I am glad you have also chosen a path to be happy with life. As you point out, sometimes we get caught up with things that are really insignificant.

As the saying goes: The best things in life are free !

"They're genuine, they are not ashamed of who they are, they don't pretend to be who they are not."

"...what they do have is a spirit to live..."

So well worded.

The happiest, most self-actualized people I've ever known have not monetary wealth but a love of life so strong that not only do they enjoy happiness themselves, but they spread it to others.

Great post.

Great article Jeremy. As I have been slowly selling all of my belongings in preparation for travel, I have realised the true value of life, and that it doesn't hang in my wardrobe. I have grown richer through this process than I ever dreamed possible. Oh, and I love 'Waste Land' - what an incredible film :)

I'm so glad that you were able to find the richness in life!! While also realizing that materials truly don't make you rich : )

Also I'm so glad you saw "Wasteland" it truly is a great work of art !
