Why the smile under severe sleep depravation?
Well I was on an adventure with a wonderful person, about to cross the famous tower bridge by bicycle....also I was in LONDON!!
My earliest travel daydreams I can remember involved London. It would never be anything to elaborate just simple things. Driving on the left side of a busy London road. Talking with an English accent, or just strolling around with my imaginary English friends.
This fascination always grew as I got older. In 2004 when I found myself back in the U.S from my 3 month stay in Guatemala, the urge to be in Europe was again present.
After a mini trip back to Guatemala in 2005 my daydreams would finally become reality. At 19 while enlisted in the Air Force I was sent to live in Germany for two years. My initial reaction was happiness, and some disappointment. I had tried being stationed in England however I was sent a little bit to the south.
I remember being rushed with thoughts of what European life would be like, the food, the nightlife, the women!! A boy on his last teenage year about to get a taste of the European world.
My stay in Europe was honestly breathtaking. I traveled to all the cities I had only imagined as a young teenager. I reveled in the culture, the scenery, the food....and the nightlife, boy did I party it up in those two years!
I walked amongst the beauty of Paris
The time spent in the EU was one that expanded my mind, my curiosity, and my ever loving urge to travel. When I finally left I was a bit disappointed, in only a way a traveler could be disappointed. I felt I had not seen enough, there was more country to traverse & locations to enjoy!
Although my EU life has since passed I have gone back & will continue to do so in the future. I still have Spain & Portugal to see, and then I have to move eastward & beyond!
My birth certificate does not bear a European country, but in my heart the place will always feels like home!
