I let outside influences dictate my existence and I payed heavily for this.
Needless to say this scripted life didn't last. My marriage came to an end and I had to start at square one as a single father, and a lost soul.
Fortunately I took some steps to get back on my feet. These steps help guide my life to where it finds itself today.
I share with you some steps that helped me in my time of need.
5 Steps for an Unscripted life
1. Get in tune with yourself
What happens when you are left in a place you had never intended to be...you have a lot of time to think :
"How the F$%# did I get here?!?"
I think one of the best services we can do for ourselves is get in touch with who we really want to be. No, not the person you should be, but the person you already are.
You know the person who you keep from others. The one that sings in the car by themselves, the one who talks to themselves. That special person you hide from the world.
For me it's this person who one really is. Throughout our life we are subjected to rules and regulations, how to act, how not to act.
Do yourself a favor and get comfortable with this person. Once you're comfortable begin to share it.
Let yourself be more comfortable with having this hidden person see the world, I will assure you it will not be as painful as you believe.
2. Don't worry what others think
Day by day we're so preoccupied with how others perceive us. Yes I am talking to you, even the person that say's " I am confident with who I am, and I don't care what others think". I am glad your confident but we all have our insecurities.
When one can become more comfortable being who they really are, the outside world becomes less of a care. You will begin to get so comfortable with yourself that you will want the outside world to conform to your special unique self.
If you start to realize that those who have always been around you don't seem to accept the real you, this serves as a perfect opportunity to start finding some new people in your life.
this brings me to the next step.
3. Put yourself out there
Our society finds itself at a unique crossroads. A crossroads where technology and social life have intersected. We could debate the pros and cons of this, but I think sometimes all this technology keeps us alone.
We shelter ourselves from the vibrant bustling world that's out there. We tend to get comfortable with the world we have manifested for ourselves. We accept it and don't stray from it.
To me is this behavior is very harmful. What you're effectively doing is sheltering yourself from other possibilities, from other ways of approaching life.
Whether it be traveling, or just sparking up a random conversation with a stranger. Go out and share yourself with the world.
Who knows you might find other people that are more like you then you think.
4. Etch it in your mind that your days are numbered
We all came into this life the same way and someday we will all meet the same fate.
One can easily get caught up with the monotony of life. We tend to think that our daily routine is what life consists of until we get to the other side.
For me it's when we grow old that we realize that life could have been so much grander.
Unfortunately that realization can come a little to late. We're no longer in the prime of our lives (that's not to say you still can't do amazing things) and we can only regret the time we didn't use wisely.
With everything you pursue in life think to yourself
" If I were to die tomorrow, would I be happy with how this ended".
You don't have to take immediate action if it doesn't, but this question can help guide you in the right direction.
5. Start taking action
The culmination of all these steps can be manifested in action. If you're living a life that doesn't fulfill you; start thinking about what you want to do, and start doing it!
Remember only you can answer the deep questions that are left unanswered. If you don't like the way something is going, change it!
Don't worry about all the external factors, take a chance on yourself.
I mean if you're going to roll the dice on anything, it might as well be on yourself.
Remember this world is what we make it. Everything around you is the doing of ordinary people. You are no less capable then any of them, so start pursuing what you want !
